CES is set to kick off 2017 with a bang as it celebrates its 50th anniversary in Las Vegas tomorrow.

The conference, which is the world’s largest meeting of tech innovators and enthusiasts, has gained a huge reputation over the years due to the number of reveals and announcements that have been made, from CD players in 1981 to the Xbox in 2011.

However, in recent years it has been a very much US-led experience, and less and less of the technology on show seems likely to make it into consumers’ homes any time soon.

Take the hot tips for this year as an example: electric cars and drones. Yes they sound exciting, but will everyone have one in a year’s time?

Otherwise it’s a similar story, with new OLED TVs, updated smartphones and VR gadgets all expected to make an appearance.

Hopefully this year will see a number of surprises, and as tech lovers we will definitely be tuning in all the same!
